The Multi-Lingual Community
Rights Shop has adopted the mission statement of the AdviceUK
(formerly Federation of Independent Advice Centres) because we
strongly believe that it represents the vision adopted by our
organisation. The Multi-Lingual Community Rights Shop, Advice and
Information Service exist because of a belief that people’s
rights have no meaning without the means to enforce them. The
Community Rights Shop therefore aims to ensure that black and ethnic
minority, migrants, asylum seekers and refugee communities whose
first language is not English are able to have access to free
independent advice of an appropriate quality to enable them to
achieve their rights. We believe that because of the socio-economic
factors currently existent in our complex society, people will
always need access to free independent advice. We believe the needs
of black and ethnic minority, migrants, asylum seekers and refugee
communities whose first language is not English should be self
defined by the same communities or groups serving these communities.
We believe that advice is integral to most social welfare and
community activities, and encompasses a range of activities rather
than a single simply defined function. The Multi-Lingual Advice Shop
is concerned with the delivery of multi-lingual advice and
information in the following areas: Welfare Benefits/Rights, Housing
& Homelessness, Immigration, Nationality & Asylum, Debt,
Consumer, Employment, Education, Family & Relationships,
Community Care and Health (including drugs/alcohol, mental health,
and HIV/AIDS), Disability Rights.
